C.O.C. Frontman Says METALLICA Audition Didn't Alienate His Bandmates
April 7, 2005CORROSION OF CONFORMITY frontman Pepper Keenan recently spoke to Vancouver's Straight.com about the group's current tour with North American tour with MOTÖRHEAD and his audition for the bassist slot in METALLICA. A couple of excerpts from the interview follow:
On touring with MOTÖRHEAD:
"It's two really powerful bands that kinda complement each other, as gay as that sounds."
"Of course I'm a MOTÖRHEAD fan. Everybody's a MOTÖRHEAD fan. You ain't a MOTÖRHEAD fan? Ya gotta be."
On the five years it took CORROSION OF CONFORMITY to release its eighth album, "In the Arms of God":
"Uh, man, I been busy. I did that little [side project] called DOWN. We went and toured that, did Ozzfest, came back. I pretty much messed up my life, got back on track, and then did that thing for METALLICA, which took a while. Then I moved back to New Orleans, and blah, blah, blah, blah, blah — next thing you know, it's fuckin' five years or whatever."
On whether his audition for METALLICA as the replacement for bassist Jason Newsted has alienated his current bandmates:
"No, no, no, no — nope. What are you gonna say to somebody about that, man? Would you tell him, 'No, don't do it.' Hey, come on!"
On their revolving door of drummers (GALACTIC's Stanton Moore plays on "In the Arms of God"):
"We've been through a lotta drummers. We just kinda burn 'em out."
